FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Independent Offers iCopyright’s Instant
Licensing
and Permissions Services for its Web Content
National Newspaper is First UK Daily to Deploy Intelligent Copyright Licensing Services in Affiliation with The Reprint & Licensing Centre
SEATTLE and LONDON, October 14, 2008 -- The
Independent, a leading national daily newspaper serving the
United Kingdom, has deployed a suite of iCopyright’s content
licensing tools on its World Wide Web content at
www.independent.co.uk. This implementation marks the first time
iCopyright’s familiar licensing tools have been deployed by a
major media property outside North America and the first such
agreement to be executed by iCopyright’s UK partner, The Reprint
& Licensing Centre. iCopyright processed more than 4,000 instant
licenses and ad-supported permissions for The Independent on the
first day of operation - a record.
Announcing this new milestone, iCopyright founder and CEO Mike
O’Donnell said, “Our technology was built to be the
best-in-class solution for publishers worldwide to promote,
protect, and monetize their digital content, so we are
especially pleased to welcome The Independent into our network.
The Reprint & Licensing Centre, our partner in the UK, was
instrumental in bringing iCopyright’s technology and The
Independent’s content together.” O’Donnell added, “We look
forward to working with other publishers in the UK, Europe, and
beyond.”
“We are pleased to be the leader among UK newspaper publishers
in adopting the intelligent copyright tags provided by
iCopyright via The Reprint & Licensing Centre,” said Bill
Swanson, Managing Director of www.independent.co.uk. “We know
that our editorial content is highly valued by our readers
worldwide, and we encourage them to share and reuse our content
with attribution and in accordance with copyright law.
iCopyright will make it much easier for our content to reach a
far-flung audience without losing its identity and compromising
our rights.”
